When auditioning for "Best Foot Forward" in 1941, George Abbot thought she was an actress named Helen Walker.  She got the part and and kept the name "Walker."

Working in theatre until the age of 40, Nancy Walker decided to make the move into television. She was featured as Rosie the waitress in the 'Bounty' paper-towel commercials and co-stared in "MacMillan and Wife" for four years.  Nancy found national fame as Ida Morgenstern when first appearing on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and into "Rhoda."
